Short answer: If you want eight SDK languages, PDF reports and output in eight Indian languages from one vendor, AstrologyAPI has them and Asterwise does not. If you want to know, before you sign up, what a call costs, what engine computes it and how accurate it is, Asterwise publishes all three and AstrologyAPI publishes none of them.
Five things to check before you switch
| Check | Asterwise | AstrologyAPI |
|---|---|---|
| Price of a call | $1.00 (Builder); $0.60 (Launch, $30 for 50,000); $0.33 (Scale, $100 for 300,000) | not published. Entry plans: Indian astrology from ₹1,500 a month (blog: $29); Western from ₹2,999; Horoscope from ₹3,500 source |
| Free tier | 500 calls a month, no card, does not expire | 150 free credits on sign-up (the MCP page says 100 calls) source |
| What computes the positions | Swiss Ephemeris with the full data files | not published |
| Published accuracy check | Yes: 80 positions checked against NASA JPL Horizons, median 0.046 arcseconds, raw data and script published | not published source |
| Machine-readable contract | Yes, public at api.asterwise.com/openapi.json | not published source |
Where a cell says not published, we could not find the fact on AstrologyAPI's pages on 5 September 2026. That is a statement about what you can verify before you build, not about the service.
Where AstrologyAPI is the better fit
- You need an SDK in Java, Swift, Android, PHP, .NET or Ruby, not just Python or TypeScript.
- You need PDF reports, chart images, or products outside astrology such as Human Design and palmistry.
- Your users need responses in Hindi, Marathi, Bengali, Tamil, Telugu, Malayalam or Kannada.
Its coverage rows, read on 5 September 2026: SDKs, 8: Node.js, Python, Java, Swift, Android, PHP, .NET, Ruby; languages, 8 via an Accept-Language header: English, Hindi, Marathi, Bengali, Tamil, Telugu, Malayalam, Kannada; reports and images, PDF reports (five types each for Indian and Western), chart image endpoint, plus Astrocartography, Human Design, Palmistry and Face Reading APIs. If any of those is a requirement, the switch will cost you something and this page will not pretend otherwise.
Where Asterwise is the better fit
- You want to price your product before you build it: every Asterwise tier has a computable per-call cost; AstrologyAPI publishes no call quota for its plans.
- You want to check the astronomy yourself: Asterwise publishes its ephemeris, an 80-position check against NASA JPL Horizons and the script to repeat it.
- You want an OpenAPI document and SDKs generated from it, so your types never drift from the API.
- You want the ayanamsa as a parameter on every sidereal call, with Rajju and Vedha returned as vetoes on the main matchmaking response.
- You want an MCP server on the official registry with public source, one OAuth flow, and 500 free calls a month that never expire.
What the migration involves
Asterwise is not a drop-in replacement; the endpoints and field names differ. In practice a migration is four steps:
- Authentication. AstrologyAPI uses HTTP Basic (user ID and API key). Asterwise uses a Bearer token or an
X-API-Keyheader, and every response carries an HMAC signature header you can verify. - Ayanamsa. On Asterwise the ayanamsa is a request field on every sidereal call (
lahiriby default, raman,kp,tropical) and the response reports the value used, so a chart is never ambiguous about its offset. - Field mapping. Pull the OpenAPI document or install the Python or TypeScript SDK generated from it; the Vedic and Western pages show real responses for the reference chart so you can map fields before writing code.
- Matchmaking semantics. Asterwise returns Rajju and Vedha as explicit vetoes beside the 36-point Ashtakoot score rather than folding them into it; if your product surfaces a single number, decide how to show a veto. Details on the kundli matching page.
Run both APIs on the same birth data during the switch. The free tier is enough for that, and the reference chart gives you a known-good chart to compare against.
Questions people ask
- Is Asterwise an alternative to AstrologyAPI?
- If you want eight SDK languages, PDF reports and output in eight Indian languages from one vendor, AstrologyAPI has them and Asterwise does not. If you want to know, before you sign up, what a call costs, what engine computes it and how accurate it is, Asterwise publishes all three and AstrologyAPI publishes none of them.
- What does a call cost on each?
- Asterwise: $1.00 (Builder); $0.60 (Launch, $30 for 50,000); $0.33 (Scale, $100 for 300,000). AstrologyAPI: not published (its pricing page, read on 5 September 2026: Indian astrology from ₹1,500 a month (blog: $29); Western from ₹2,999; Horoscope from ₹3,500).
- Can I try both without paying?
- Asterwise: 500 calls a month, no card, does not expire. AstrologyAPI: 150 free credits on sign-up (the MCP page says 100 calls).
- Is Asterwise a drop-in replacement?
- No. The request and response shapes differ, so a switch is a small migration, not a URL change. AstrologyAPI authenticates with HTTP Basic (user ID and API key); Asterwise uses a Bearer token or X-API-Key header. Asterwise takes the ayanamsa as a request field on every sidereal call (Lahiri, Raman, KP or tropical) and returns Rajju and Vedha as vetoes on the matchmaking response. The OpenAPI document and the generated SDKs give you the exact field names to map to.
- What does AstrologyAPI have that Asterwise does not?
- You need an SDK in Java, Swift, Android, PHP, .NET or Ruby, not just Python or TypeScript. You need PDF reports, chart images, or products outside astrology such as Human Design and palmistry. Your users need responses in Hindi, Marathi, Bengali, Tamil, Telugu, Malayalam or Kannada.
