Facts about AstroWay Calculation API were read from its own pages on 7 September 2026; every row in the full table below carries its source, and the page ends with how to report an error.
The short answer
AstroWay is the broadest Vedic surface on this page: ten dasha systems, sixteen vargas, KP, Lal Kitab, Jaimini, Varshaphal, SVG and PDF output, 21 languages, a free 10,000-credit tier and a published swetest benchmark with its script. Its Dashakoota omits Rajju, it has no Papasamyam or Porutham, and its own pages disagree on tool counts, dasha counts and which plan includes MCP. Asterwise is smaller, prices per call rather than per credit, signs every response, and sits on the official MCP registry.
What you can verify before you write a line of code
An astrology API is a promise about astronomy, coverage and price. The fastest way to compare two of them is to ask what each lets you check in advance.
| Can you check this before signing up? | Asterwise | AstroWay Calculation API |
|---|---|---|
| The exact price of a call | Yes. $10 ÷ 10 = $1.00; $30 ÷ 50 = $0.60; $100 ÷ 300 = $0.33. | Per 1,000 full-chart calls at 20 credits each: $2.00 (Indie), $1.90 (Starter), about $1.48 (Pro), $1.14 (Business); simple lookups are half that; Vedic dasha, Varshaphal and Shadbala calls are listed at 50 credits, AI, rectification and PDF calls at 100 to 5,000 |
| What computes the positions | Yes. Swiss Ephemeris with the full data files. | Swiss Ephemeris compiled to WebAssembly with DE431 data files; the vendor notes outer planets and Chiron use a compressed ephemeris set |
| How accurate the positions are | Yes: 80 positions checked against NASA JPL Horizons, median 0.046 arcseconds, raw data and script published. | Yes: 130 positions over 10 charts (1900 to 2050) against Astrodienst swetest, measured 2026-07-29, median 0.0013 arcseconds, maximum 0.561 (Chiron), Neptune 0.223; script published (MIT). The homepage separately states "Sub-arcsecond drift (≤0.1″) vs NASA JPL ephemeris and Astrodienst reference" |
| The full API contract | Yes, public at api.asterwise.com/openapi.json. | Yes, OpenAPI 3.1 at api.astroway.info/v1/openapi.json, also mirrored on GitHub |
| Try it without paying | Yes. 500 calls a month, no card, does not expire. | 10,000 credits a month, 10 requests a minute, no card, "all light endpoints", sandbox key, best-effort SLA |
Where a cell says not published, it means we could not find the fact on the vendor's pages on 7 September 2026. It is not a claim that the fact is bad, only that you cannot check it before you build.
Choose AstroWay Calculation API if
- You need Kalachakra, Tribhagi, Shatabdika, Shodashottari, Sthira or Shoola dasha, Jaimini, muhurat finders, or PDF reports.
- Your users need responses in Ukrainian, Polish, Japanese, Korean, Arabic or the other languages in its enum.
- You want a free tier of 10,000 credits a month and a $5 entry plan.
Choose Asterwise if
- You want a bill you can forecast: a call is a call, at $1.00, $0.60 or $0.33 per thousand; AstroWay bills 5 to 5,000 credits per call.
- You need Rajju and Vedha as vetoes on the Ashtakoot result, Papasamyam, or Kerala and Tamil Porutham; none appear in AstroWay's OpenAPI document.
- You want signed API responses; AstroWay signs webhooks only.
- You want an MCP server on the official registry with one tool count and one plan rule; AstroWay's pages give three tool counts and disagree on whether the free key works.
- You want an accuracy check against NASA JPL Horizons itself, not against another Swiss Ephemeris build.
Start with 500 free calls a month, no card, no expiry. Connect the MCP server to Claude or Cursor in one line, or install the Python or TypeScript SDK. See pricing or connect the MCP server.

How to read the prices
Where a vendor publishes both a monthly price and a monthly call quota, the price per 1,000 calls is the first divided by the second, and the arithmetic is shown under the row. Where a vendor sells credits that cost different amounts per endpoint, or publishes no quota, no per-call price is given, because none can be derived.
How this page stays honest
Every statement about another vendor on this page is a statement about what that vendor's public pages said on the date shown, not a statement about the quality of its calculations or its service. Where a page did not say, the row reads not published, and that means only that we could not find it. Vendors change prices and features; verify anything that matters to you on the vendor's own page before you decide.
Report an error. Email support@asterwise.com with the row, the correct fact and a public page that shows it. We check it within five business days, change the row, and record the change in the corrections log on this page with the date.
